The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards was a night to remember. The best of the best in the music industry came together to celebrate music, share their talent and formally recognize the evenings winners.
This night became vastly significant as the sudden passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others lost their lives in a fatal helicopter accident early that morning. The world could feel the heaviness knowing The Grammy awards was to be held in the home of the Laker's, where Kobe played for the majority of his career, the Staples Center. The added weight was felt in the city of Los Angeles as beloved Kobe fans surrounded the venue on music's biggest night.
Lizzo opened the show, giving a vivacious show-stopping performance. Drastically opening in a gown and finishing in a light-up bodysuit. We expect nothing less.
Host and Grammy award winner Alicia Keys sang with Boys II Men to commemorate the sudden passing of the basketball legend, Kobe Bryant. Their heartfelt, short and sweet dedication was a prelude to the energy of the night.
The love and affection continued to pour from artists about the sudden loss. The Nipsey Hussle tribute, beautifully performed by DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, Roddy Rich, YG, Kirk Franklin and John Legend of the single "Higher" closed with Nipsey and Kobe lit up in the background.
Personally, this was a very emotional moment in the show.
The big winners of the night were Lizzo and Tyler, The Creator. Billie Eilish enjoyed the biggest wins and made history as the first woman to take home the Big Four awards: album, record, song of the year and best new artist. My favorite moment was DJ Khaled, John Legend and Nipsey Hussle's family accepting the award for Best Rap/Sung Performance.
Artists brought their best as performances like the Jonas Brothers and Billie Eilish, blessed the stage. The legends Run-DMC and Aerosmith brought the house down with "Walk This Way", bringing the classic back to life. Tyler the Creator lit up his performance, literally. Camila Cabello performed a tear-jerking dedication to her father and Lil Nas X did every remix to "Old Town Road" with its features, closing with none other than THE Nas. Usher performed a spicy dedication to the legendary Prince as FKA Twigs, showed off her dance moves. A night to remember.
The night was high energy, filled with memorable, record breaking moments. We can't wait for next year!
