Los Angeles Wildfires: Essential Resources & Information

Having lived in Los Angeles for almost 15 years, this city has truly become home, and my heart aches for what it has endured. Over the years, Santa Monica, nestled on the edge of Malibu Beach, has been my refuge—a place to clear my mind, recharge, pray through life’s toughest moments, and reflect as I embrace new chapters.

However, I live near Pasadena. Literally a couple of blocks away. You can feel the community with a simple trip to the beauty supply store or local La Estrella. The people of Los Angeles, the grand majority, are judged due to the glitz and glamour fed by the media. These are hard-working, everyday, resilient people, a mix of those who decided to take a chance on life and their dreams and whose families have been there for generations - doing the best they can.

In this city, where I’ve built friendships that feel like family and formed connections across neighborhoods, it’s devastating to see the toll of recent wildfires. From Pacific Palisades to Altadena, I’ve watched friends and colleagues lose their homes and grapple with unimaginable loss. Countless people have been forced to evacuate, left displaced, and stripped of everything they once knew. The uncertainty of what lies ahead looms heavy, and for so many, the daunting task of starting over has become their reality.

Here is a list of resources to help those who have been affected. Please note that this will be updated as needed. Please give us information that you feel is important to add:

A QUICK NOTE About AIR Quality & Health:

Though the air quality index in your region may be noted as "good" it absolutely doesn't account for larger, visible ash particles, that are extremely unhealthy. The ash in LA and surrounding areas may contain asbestos, lead, plastic, and other carcinogens from old homes, buildings, and cars the harmful effects of carcinogens are long-term (similar to the alarming rate of lung cancer detections after 9/11).

What to do: If you return to a burn zone: wear an N95 or P100 mask wear eye protection cover your skin, and do not sweep the ash.

Review these air quality resources below:

List of Communities who have lost their homes:

When creating GoFundMe's, please be careful with the language you use so that it doesn't interfere with your ability to get assistance from FEMA. For example, avoid statements like "Rebuild my home."

@PATTYRODRIGUEZ on Instagram shared to:

Avoid specifying that the funds are for disaster-related expenses like home repairs, rebuilding, medical bills, or cleanup if you intend to apply for FEMA assistance for those specific purposes. Instead, keep the language broader to reflect general recovery and supplemental needs.

Instead, use statements like:

  • "Your contributions will help us through this challenging time."

  • "We're seeking support to cover unexpected costs and to get back on our feet."

  • "These funds will assist with needs that might not be fully covered by other sources of aid."

  • "Your help will allow us to address the many aspects of recovery and support our family through this crisis."

  • "We're raising funds to recover and support our neighbors and family."
